Art has been part of Andrew Allansons life for as long as he can remember. He first realised that making pictures could please others as well as himself, when at the age of 6 some of his work was selected to be displayed at Wakefield City Art Gallery.
Born in Leeds in 1956, he attended Wakefield School of Art studying Fine Art; painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and art history, progressing to Swindon College of Art studying graphic design, 3D design, photography and illustration. From 1977-1990 he worked in advertising, as a graphic designer and illustrator and from then until quite recently he has been running his own photography and illustration business creating images for advertising, using digital manipulation techniques.
In recent years a desire to get back to 'real' painting has become a passion, using traditional materials and techniques, often working in oil or acrylic on canvas.
I have followed my natural instinct to be creative. Painting is one of my favourite forms of expression and key to this, is a love of light, colour, composition and the thrill of revealing the essence of a subject often unseen by the casual observer. My painting approach is an adaptive one and will often bend to the demands of the subject, often switching mediums and techniques in order to best render an atmosphere or emotion.
Andrew enjoys painting landscapes, from local scenes around his home in north Wiltshire, to more distant locations, particularly Norway, Italy and France.
His work has been shown at the following galleries: The Thin Dog Gallery, Cirencester; The Red Rag Gallery, Stow-on-the-Wold; The D'Arcy Gallery, Cheltenham; The Fowey River Gallery, Cornwall and the Whistlers Gallery, Lechlade. This is his first show with The Great Atlantic group of galleries.
