the colour of light

High summer, Sennen
16 x 20” 40 x 50cm oil on canvas board

“I’m interested in light and reacting to what is going on in front of me - which is why my paintings are made on the spot.

“I like the way trying to hit the colour/tone values and composing from something constantly changing (like a beach scene) can give the painting vitality.

“On one level the paintings are all about being in a particular moment and trying to record what you see and also the feelings generated.”

Bo Hilton, Penzance, September 2006

Bo Hilton was born in 1961 and moved to Botallack, near St Just in West Cornwall with his parents at the age of three. This was his home until University beckoned in 1984 leading to a BSc in Biology from London in 1984 and an MA in Fine Art from Brighton in 1988. For several years Bo Hilton remained in Brighton but has recently returned to West Cornwall.

Coming from an artistic background, it is no wonder that Bo has been a practicing artist for most of his adult life. His work has been exhibited at Royal Academy Summer Shows in ’94, ’96, ’98, 2002 and 2004. He showed work at Cassian De Vere Cole, London in 1994 & 1996. Since 1992 he has been represented by Manya Igel Fine Art of London and his work has been seen at all major UK Art Fairs.

This is Bo Hilton’s first solo show at The Great Atlantic Galleries. We are delighted to present his recent work at The Great Atlantic Falmouth Gallery from 16th September and at the Map Works Gallery in St Just, Bo’s home town, from Sunday 1st October.
