Jenny Grevatte - ‘Casting an eye’ a celebration of the harbours and coves of Cornwall.

“Art is not what you see. It is what you make others see.”
Edgas Degas

“Keep painting day by day, be absorbed buy it. Hold on to the dream. Try to make the great dream reality.”
Milton Avery

“I would like to paint as the bird sings.”
Claude Monet

These quotations are better than any I can conjure up to describe my present aspirations.

This collection of recent work rejoices in the colours and vibrancy of this most familiar of subjects - the harbours and coves of Cornwall.

Some of the larger works encompass the drama and scale of the subject; others are more intimate close-ups and use colour and paint instinctively.

It has been liberating to push towards abstraction in the reflection series (within the collection). A more cerebral challenge has been the development of the fragmented paintings, where each individual study has to achieve harmony within the whole.”

Jenny Grevatte, Lelant, Cornwall, July 2007
