Over the Edge acrylic on canvas 610 x 510mm   Simon was born in Cheshire in 1955. He trained as an architect in London and practiced in Sheffeld for 12 years. In 1992 he moved to West Cornwall with his wife Hilary to paint full-time. A member of the Newlyn Society of Artists, he exhibits in several Cornish galleries and has shown at a number of others throughout Britain including Messum’s and the City Gallery in London. His solo shows to date have sold-out and his reputation is spreading far and wide, in Britain and abroad. This solo show at the Great Atlantic follows his highly successful participation in a group show here in the spring. Simon enjoys travelling. Part of this collection is his response to recent visits to the coasts of Dorset and the south of France, but he only has to walk a few steps from his home near Lamorna, between Penzance and Land’s End, for him to be drawing. He says, “I seem to have had a pencil in my hand for most of my life.” In the studio he allows memories of places, reinforced by the act of having drawn them, to emerge on the canvas spontaneously.
