I trained at Harrow School of Art in the mid-sixties and worked in London as a freelance illustrator until moving to Cornwall in 1975. After a short time out to have two daughters and run a smallholding at Pendeen near Penzance I began to sell my etchings through a London agent. In the early 80’s I started working for the Adult Education Service teaching Printmaking and Drawing, and working in local schools under the South West Arts “Artists in Schools” scheme.
Moving to St. Martins, Isles of Scilly, in 1989 came as a complete change of direction and I opened North Farm Gallery and have painted full time since then. My first book, “Sketches of Scilly” was published in 1997. Last winter I worked on sketches of Fowey and “The making of Eden” - a book about the new garden project going on in old china clay workings near St. Austell, and my seventh book, “Summer on Scilly” will be published this summer. I exhibit in Galleries in Cornwall, including Trelissick and Lanhydrock National Trust galleries and this solo show at the Great Atlantic Mapworks Gallery in St. Just near Land’s End.
Though I spend a growing amount of time working on the mainland, recording the changing weather and landscape of St. martin’s remains my greatest pleasure . . . and challenge.
