Call of the sea, an exhibition of new work by Andrew Giddens, opens at The Great Atlantic Falmouth Gallery on Saturday May 27th for two weeks.
Andrew Giddens studied art at Falmouth College and The Arts Institute in Bournemouth. Andrew and his young family live within yards of the sea, at Praa Sands between Penzance and Helston, so it is not hard to imagine the call of sea having a very literal influence on his life and work.
Now firmly established in West Cornwall and with a nationwide following, Andrew Giddens is becoming a serious player on the contemporary art scene. No a less a celebrity than Sir Tim Rice has several of Andrews paintings and, in the foreword to a small published book* about Andrews work, has this to say: I was lucky enough to discover Andrew Giddens before many others did
.He is a worthy addition to the great and long- established line of artists from the wonderful county of Cornwall.
Of this current show, his fourth major solo at The Great Atlantic Galleries, Andrew says In this new collection of paintings I have responded to the experience and effects of seeing and discovering nature. I have called this exhibition Call Of The Sea as I have tried to paint moments when natures art has spoken to me. I believe that all beauty calls to us. It speaks of wholeness, of harmony and of order, pointing us toward what Wordsworth called The Immortal Sea.
