Melanie McDonald was born in London in1966 and now lives in Newquay, Cornwall. She studied painting at Falmouth College of Art, and printing at Loughborough College of Art graduating with a BA from both. Melanie shares her life with her husband, her daughter, their dog, her art and the demands of the family business.

The famous Newquay landmarks of Fistral Beach, Crantock, Lusty Glaze and Pentire Headland are just around the corner from her home and feature in many of her paintings. Other bays and beaches on the Cornwall coast attract Melanie’s attention where she “looks at the sea and sand, the textures and colours; breathes them in hoping for inspiration”.

Melanie McDonald has been a professional artist since graduating from Falmouth College of Art in 2003 and her work has been widely exhibited, in the Truro area in particular.

Her favourite artists include Matisse, David Hockney, Richard Diebenkorn, Bonnard, Vanessa Bell, Giorgio Morandi.
