”In his latest exhibition at The Great Atlantic Gallery, Falmouth, Neil Pinkett’s sea and landscapes are tours de force. As sea, clouds and sky meet, shafts of light pour down from heavily laden clouds, flooding his canvases with light like old masters. Yet his studies of boats are the very essence of pure simplicity; impressionistic still lifes, peace and tranquillity saturate these paintings.”

Peta-Jane Field, from an “Inside Cornwall” article about Neil Pinkett’s South by Southwest show

Neil Pinkett became a professional painter during the 1990’s following a career as an illustrator of books and a visualiser working in the advertising business. The transition from one career to the other was assisted by a period of teaching at Camborne College.

Following several years of intense application, working in the studio and scouring the coast and moors of West Cornwall, Pinkett has emerged as a leading oil painter with a growing national and international reputation. His work can be seen at progressive galleries in London, Bristol and Bath as well as in a select group of galleries in his native Cornwall.

His working relationship with The Great Atlantic group of art galleries has flourished from a tentative start in the late 90’s to his becoming one the most influential exhibitors since the year 2000. The current “South by Southwest” exhibition is one a series of themed shows that has included “A Prospect of the Sea” (2000), “Lamorna” (2002), “Scillionia” (2003) and “Man and Dog” (2005). In 2004 Neil produced a poignant collect of paintings depicting “The Mountains and Quarries of North Wales” which was shown to much acclaim at two venues in Vermont, USA. At the present time, the artist is preparing for a major touring initiative for 2006/2007 that will take in the epic British landscapes from Cape Wrath in Scotland to Cape Cornwall, where, fittingly, Neil Pinkett was born.
