The Isles of Scilly based artist Sue Lewington is famous for her
watercolour sketches of The Isles of Scilly and Cornwall including
the notable sites of Heligan and the Eden Project. Many of her
sketches have been published in books which can be seen in galleries
and bookshops throughout Devon and Cornwall. Her paintings depict
the varied and beautiful Cornish countryside as well as the towns,
villages, people, animals and way of life in south western England.
Sue Lewington trained at Harrow School of Art in the mid-sixties
and worked in London as a freelance illustrator before moving
to Cornwall in 1975. She began to produce and sell etchings whilst
teaching printmaking and drawing and working in local schools
for South West Arts Artists in Schools programme. Moving to
St. Martins, an off-island in The Isles of Scilly in 1989, she
opened North Farm Gallery and has painted full time ever since.
She now spends a great deal of her time on the mainland working
on her various sketch book projects, returning frequently to her
island home.
Many of the paintings in this collection of work by Sue feature
the valley and cove of Cot Valley near St. Just and also the islands
and shores of her home in The Scillies.
