Bryher Beach 61x61cms acrylic on board   The Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery is pleased to present a new collection of paintings by Richard Pearce entitled “Island Dreams”. Richard Pearce is a very successful, professional artist. He was born, raised and educated on the Isles of Scilly. After spending some years “ashore” he returned to the islands and settled on the small island of Bryher in 1981 where he worked as a farm manager and casual builder. He began painting in the early 90’s after a back injury limited the amount of manual work he could do. After a number of years working in the living room of his home, Richard acquired the lease to a derelict gig shed on the adjacent beach. This is now The Golden Eagle Studio, Richard’s workplace. His paintings of the sweeping beaches, sparkling sea and shimmering reflections, caught the eyes of visitors and, particularly, of Gallery Tresco and its proprietors, Robert and Lucy Dorrien-Smith who bought a number of his works and installed them in various properties on the neighbouring island of Tresco. His paintings now sell in significant numbers - sometimes two or three a day during busy summer months, and his first solo show at The Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery, St Just in March 2002 was a complete sell out - most of the work had sold from the catalogue prior to the opening in fact.
