An introduction to Sue Hunt

The acclaimed paintings and printmaking of Sue Hunt are well collected in Wales where she lives and works and throughout the country. The Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery is delighted to be able to exhibit Sue’s work and Sue in turn is particularly pleased to exhibit her work in Cornwall as she feels an affinity to and has been inspired by many Cornish artists such as Patrick Heron and Roger Hilton throughout her painting career.

Sue Hunt studied at High Wycombe College of Design and Canterbury College of Art before obtaining her MA in Fine Art from Cardiff College of Art in 1987.

Sue has exhibited widely throughout the UK and overseas at venues including The National Museum of Wales, Blenheim Gallery, London, The Square Gallery, London, Congres Centrum, Holland, Brian Sinfield Gallery, Gloucester, Worcester City Art Gallery, New Burlington Gallery, London, Biennale International Arts Fair, Brussels, Belgium and Jawahar Kala Kendra, Rajasthan, India. Sue has also won numerous research awards including a Welsh Arts Council Masterclass to study and work in the USA and Mexico City researching mural painting. She travelled to Philadelphia on an exchange programme in 1988 to work at the Brandywine Print Workshop. In 1992 Sue won a Welsh Arts Council Travel Grant to research papermaking and woodblock printmaking in Rajasthan, India and more recently was given a Research Award from University Wales to exhibit in Jawhar Kala Kendra in Rajasthan, India in 2003/4.

Teaching is an important part of Sue’s creative life and she has been Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at both Norwich School of Art and University of Wales and currently is a visiting lecturer on various art education courses at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

Her work can be found in private collections nationally and internationally and in The Welsh Contemporary Arts Society, Brandywine Print Workshop, Philadelphia and Royal Gwent Hospital.
