High Tide, Porthleven Gill Watkiss trained at S.W. Essex School of Art before moving to Cornwall in 1959. Her distinctive paintings feature ordinary people amid the towns, parks, narrow lanes and coastline of Cornwall. The town of St. Just was an early influence on her work enticing her to capture the essence of everyday life through all winds and weathers. Gills familiar characters are to be seen dotted around a wide range of Cornish landmarks. Her work is avidly collected and can be found in private collections all over Britain, Europe and the world, providing a connective thread to Cornwall and its people.
