Paintings of Hayle and Mylor

"My recent paintings are concerned with two areas of Cornwall that I have stong connections with and visit often, Hayle and Mylor. Both have harbours, but comparisons end there as they have very different characteristics.

“I now live in Hayle and am atracted to the variations of landscape, from the rugged harbour to the almost tropical sandy river, clusters of holiday cabins and long beach open the the atlantic surf.

“In contrast, Mylor, which I visit often as my girlfriend co-owns Mylor Sailing school, is in a calm and protected spot, fringed by lushly vegetated creeks and well protected from any east coast swells. Because of this, Mylor is very popular with sailors and many yachts are moored around the marina and up the steeply wooded creek, lined with smart waterside homes. The pontoons are busy with yachts, small fishing boats, hire boats and dinghies and present an unusual composition when viewed from high on Mylor quay.

“This series of paintings is produced from drawings made at these two harbours and show some similarities but mainly the variations in landscape which occur at opposite sides of Cornwall’s coastline.”
