Click on an image to enlarge Harlan Mitchell is a self-taught direct free carver and works only by hand without a preconceived image or concept. This forms a carving practice in which creative decision-making is continuous, and with stone irreversible, rather than that split between design and making. The work therefore establishes its form and content only through the process of working .The pieces exhibited are an exploration into surreal carving, a discipline of working with and following the minds image with no forward or backward thinking.
