Mountain streams become torrents - Brecon Beacons

The Great Atlantic Church Street Gallery is pleased to present a new collection of paintings by Carrie Taylor.

Carrie Taylor studied at Harrogate College of Art and Bradford Art College and was also taught by Jean Georges Simon, a French artist who became a major influence on her work. Simon was a close friend of Bourdelle and Modigliani when he lived and worked in Paris. Carrie lives in St. Just-in-Penwith, where her lifelong fascination with natural history is blended in her paintings with her observations of hedgerows, moorland, water and rocks throughout the seasons. Carrie has received much success with her paintings since placing them with us over the past year and is fast becoming a popular addition to The Great Atlantic’s team of artists.

“My work in this exhibition reflects the experience of my travels through the hills and valleys of South Wales. There are throughout, the nutty, russet colours of autumn and the skeletal twigs and seed heads of winter. There’s the texture of heather, bracken and rock on Welsh hillsides. And the sights of birds careering around while grazing sheep and ponies go more quietly about their business. Overhead the drama of clouds catching the mountain tops; underfoot, heavy rain wets the earth and swells the streams and rivers. Meanwhile, the inconvenience and discomfort of those heavy showers that sent me diving for shelter into the muffled darkness of pine forests is recalled.”
