Eric Gill Exhibition in Falmouth
Eric Gill original prints will be on exhibition for sale this summer. Sculptor, typographer, and writer, it was the unequalled clarity of line of his engravings that have made his work so sought after.
Gills subject matter swung between the deeply religious and the highly erotic, a direct echo of his eccentric life.
Before coming to live in the Marches, Gill lived in Ditchling, Sussex from 1907-24 and was instrumental in setting up both an artistic and a religious community, the Roman Catholic Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic (which exists to this day). Among the artists surrounding him at Ditchling were David Jones, Hagreen, Pepler, and Johnston.
In 1924 Eric Gill moved to Capel-y-ffin, near Hay-on Wye and over the next four years produced much of his best engraved work.
We are fortunate at The Great Atlantic Gallery to have a unique exhibition of these sought-after works.
