CATHERINE JAUSLIN - ROAD ART

Our first guest is Catherine Jauslin, an artist who has exhibited widely, as her C.V. shows, and is passionate in her use of oil paint as a contemporary medium.

When I first visited Catherine at her studio high up on the windy Penwith moors, I was impressed by the dynamic impact of a number of her large paintings which were being dispatched to the Peterborough Prize exhibition

Catherine had also completed a series of smaller ply-wood panels joined to form one piece of work for the Spacex Gallery in Exeter. This concept of a series of smaller paintings juxtaposed to form one large presentation is the one that we agreed we should promote. The 42 new pieces presented on this new area of our web site represent a body of work and prose produced specially for The Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery. The collective title is Road Art and consists of 42 paintings on ply panels 22 x 30 cms. They are presented as thumbnails on the web site, the order and arrangement having been determined by Catherine.

The pieces may be purchased individually or in groups. We hope that they will be exhibited in the purchasers' homes or offices in small arrays - 2, 4, 6 or even, more. The presentation on this site then, is of a "pick and mix" scenario. To see how this works go to the MAIN MENU and click on the 'Pick and Mix' button towards the bottom of the page.

The pieces have been painted in oil on plywood. They may be leant against a wall (say, above a mantelpiece or on a narrow shelf) and occasionally moved around to change the sequence, or they may be fixed to a wall by conventional means.

Click on any thumbnail for an enlargement. Each piece has short title or a brief narrative. The enlarged image offers a choice of "More" or "Less" detail as regards the title/narrative.

Each piece purchased, comes with a longer, more elaborate story about what inspired, stimulated or otherwise determined the piece and this accompaniment will be laminated for durability. For more information, please read the ARTIST'S STATEMENT.

So, what we have here is certainly new to us; it's certainly different; it's presented in a novel way and features an interesting and thought - provoking collection of paintings.

Enjoy!
