Cornwall based art gallery group, The Great Atlantic have a long established tradition of exhibiting some of their top artists at locations outside Cornwall. After their successful visit to KCS 3 or 4 years ago, they are back in the school’s Cotman Gallery immediately after the Easter break.

Three professional artists will be represented, each a specialist oil painter.

Catherine Harvey Jefferson is a third generation painter from the Harvey family in Cornwall. She studied at Falmouth and Winchester Schools of Art. Moving back to Cornwall recently after living in the Home Counties for many years has led to work that reflects new energy and fresh re-appraisal of the Cornish coastline. Catherine likes working on drawings and paintings out on the cliffs and enjoys the excitement and energy that comes from being in the landscape, quiet, for long periods of time.

She is a regular exhibitor at The Great Atlantic Galleries and an enthusiastic participant in the Galleries’ travelling road-show programme. She often undertakes workshop sessions with students at host road-show venues, where her flair and energy inspires young artists.

Mark Spray was born in Derbyshire and moved to West Cornwall in 2000. He was a student at Manchester Metropolitan University (1992-95) and Goldsmiths College, London (1998-99). He is now a dedicated artist living and working in the Land’s End area of Cornwall, Dartmoor and parts of his native Derbyshire.

Very much a project man, Mark Spray produces a series of paintings along a particular theme – the Moor Land and Strata series, the Unearth series, inspired by the words of American Poet Paul Auster and, more recently a collection called “I’ll invite the poets” in which each individual painting and drawing was inspired by a particular line of poetry from a range of Poets.
