ROADSHOW PROGRAMME
Testimonials
The Great Atlantic Roadshow has brightened our gallery with a vibrant infusion of colour, invention and that wonderful Cornish light. Visitors very much look forward to each Roadshow with reasonably priced works so carefully presented by Michael Jay and his team. Nigel Hunter, Director of Art The Great Atlantic Gallery gave our history museum and gallery in Upstate New York an opportunity that we couldnt refuse. After three Great Atlantic art shows relating to slate and quarrying landscapes, artists are calling us with offers to create works related to our mission. Our working relationship with Michael Jay was exemplary, and he convinced me that we could actually increase our visitation by selling excellent art. Mary Lou Willits, Executive Director Reed's School's association with The Great Atlantic Roadshow programme has meant that generations of Reed's students and their families have benefited from the experience of having exhibitions that have featured the works of well known and up-and-coming artists. In addition the students have also worked closely with some of the exhibiting artists. The Roadshow concept results in a positive and creative outcome for all involved. Richard Garrett, Development & Marketing Director In autumn of 2002, Homer Watson House and Gallery in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, was very pleased to work with The Great Atlantic Galleries from United Kingdom in bringing the abstract masterpieces of musician and artist Porl Thompson to premier in Canada. Great Atlantic Director Mr. Michael Jay was a source not only for great inspiration, but also arranged and assisted in the necessary organization of shipping, customs documentation and on-site installation of this international exhibit. Mr. Jay also provided catalogue work and publication, flyer/poster production and distribution services, and web-based, internet marketing and promotional services through his gallery website and business contacts. In working closely with Mr. Michael Jay, to bring this project to fruition, I am proud to reference him as a complete professional who's love of fine art and photography provides for anyone having the pleasure to work with him, a director and curator who has the eye and spirit of a fine artist. Jennifer Kelland Wood, Curator of Porl Thompsons 100% Sky exhibition at the Homer Watson House and Gallery, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada Porl Thompson The King's School Worcester has a long and happy association with The Great Atlantic group. Liz Hand, Director of Art and Coordinator of Creative and Performing Arts Henri Matisse The Great Atlantic Galleries group organised an outstanding exhibition of Cornish paining and printmaking, headed by the work of artist Catherine Harvey Jefferson. In tandem with the exhibition Catherine ran an exciting and engaging workshop for the Lower Sixth AS pupils. Her bold and lively approach to mark-making and large scale charcoal drawings is still evident in the work of our A level pupils today. Indeed several students have been directly inspired by her work and teaching and are pursuing their personal projects centred around her gutsy rock and seascapes." Sue Harmon, Head of Art

"When undertaking field work in Cornwall, our young artists visit their galleries in St Just and Falmouth and are made to feel welcome whilst browsing and drawing. They respond with enthusiasm to the wide variety of quality work on offer and return home with new ideas for the development of their own work.
"When The Great Atlantic Road Show visits us in Worcester, it brings 'critical and contextual studies' alive for our pupils of all ages and abilities. The opportunity for pupils to study quality live work, at first hand, is a hundred times better and greatly more inspiring than looking at images in a book or on the net. The gallery staff are knowledgeable and approachable and the private views are run with professionalism and good humour. Not only do our pupils gain from these exhibitions but parents, staff and visitors also delight in the work. This helps to raise the profile of art as a subject and the local and national standing of the art department.
