Sue Davis has been a professional artist since graduating from the Central School of Art and Design. After a 10 year period as a teacher and Head of Art in the Harrow area of Greater London, Sue set up a business based on design and mural painting to commission. Having sold the business seven years ago, Sue moved to Falmouth in 2002 where she now lives and works, concentrating on her own personal art.

Originally working as a ceramicist, Sue turned to painting when the desire to use colour became stonger. Her painted works however, retain a strong association with earth and rock as will be evident from the titles she has given to some of the paintings shown here.

She explains the link: “Whilst working, my thoughts are very close to the earth that supports us. It is my delight to explore the many surfaces, colours and depths that the simple act of looking at a rock surface reveals.” And describes her general approach thus: “The freedom of non-recognisable subjects allows me to play with images, subtracting and adding many times. I try to be aware of several influences at the same time, so I attempt to work in layers, never completely deleting the past”.

Sue Davis has undertaken well over 1000 commercial commissions in her time, as well as teaching, potting, painting and exhibiting and we at The Great Atlantic Galleries are delighted to introduce her unique and striking work to our clients.
