Tony Foster
In terms of south-western and, indeed British contemporary art, Tony Foster may be described as a well kept secret. In North America, however, he is a big player, represented by galleries in San Francisco, Madison Avenue, New York and other major American cities. His paintings are eagerly collected by private individuals as well as public museums and galleries. Denver Art Museum alone, for example, has 16 of his paintings. His ‘Watermarks’ collection of works from “Swamps to Icebergs” is currently touring America and he has had a highly successful summer 2003 show in Sun Valley, Idaho. Tony is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society as befits an artist whose subjects are the world’s wilderness areas, including tropical rain forests, volcanoes, arid lands, canyonlands, wetlands and glaciers. He usually presents his work in major, structured, project-based exhibitions so to be able to show some examples of his work here is a privilege.
