Sue Lewington
The Isles of Scilly based artist Sue Lewington is famous for her watercolour sketches of the Islands, the coastal towns and countryside of south-west England and some of the most notable sites like Heligan and Eden. Many of her sketches have been published in books which can be seen in galleries and bookshops throughout Devon and Cornwall. Her paintings show much more than just a scene. They show the way of life and indeed, the pace of life in these south western parts. Sue Lewington trained at Harrow School of Art in the mid-sixties and worked in London as a freelance illustrator until moving to Cornwall in 1975. Moving to St. Martins, an “off-island” in the Isles of Scilly, in 1989 came as a complete change of direction and there, she opened North Farm Gallery and has painted full time ever since. She now spends a great deal of her time working on her sketch book projects on the mainland, returning frequently to her island home.
