Showing at The Great Atlantic Bank Square Gallery, St Just-in-Penwith from May 28th - June 16th and at The Great Atlantic Arwenack Street Gallery, Falmouth from June 19th - July 7th.
Carrie Taylor lives and works in St just, painting the flora and fauna and other minutia of the moors, fields, hedgerows and strand lines around her home. She studied at Harrogate College of Art and Bradford Art College and was also taught by Jean Georges Simon, a Hungarian artist who became a major influence on her work. Simon was a close friend of Bourdelle and Modigliani when he lived and worked in Paris.
There are many emotions arising from my work that motivate me as a painter of the natural world. Among these are: the pleasure of conjuring a small world on a flat white surface with paint; the challenge of revealing interest and beauty that I see at the corner of a field, patch of waste ground or a few square feet of Cornish hedge; the wildlife living and feeding on the strip of shore between land and sea; the transience of colour and mood in the sea and sky, always changing - subtle or dramatic
For me plants are never just weeds. They can possess as much beauty as any garden bloom, which if allowed, can bring a wild charm into the cultivated border or lawn.
