joan gillchrest (1918 - 2008)
special collection

Joan Gillchrest (1918-2008) was born and raised in the home counties and spent much of her early life in London before moving to a home in Mousehole, Cornwall where she remained for the remainder of her long life - she died in January 2008 aged 89 years. Her “apparently naive style of painting was without perspective, instantly recognisable and contained little of the actuality of the region” but in recent years her paintings of Mousehole harbour and other local landmarks have gained in popularity and individually paintings command  significant prices at auction.

Both of the paintings shown below were originally purchased from the Wren Gallery in Burford and have an impeccable provenance, coming with the exhibition catalogues from which they were purchased.
