collin halliday
special collection

For the last two years I have travelled to Cornwall and in particular to Priests Cove in order to paint. I have painted on location and back in my studio which is in Derbyshire. The work for this show has all been painted on location in and around Priests Cove in Cape Cornwall during the month of January. Painting on location throughout the day often the same view allows me to get a real sense of the ever changing light and mood. The colours are more real and the sense of light one gets by painting outdoors are a vital part of the reason why I paint outdoors.

However I always see myself as a painter of emotions and for that reason I choose to paint in a very gestural way. The application of paint is important, for it is not just what you say but how you say it, like a personal language that adds another way of understanding and celebrates difference and in turn the individual. Like nature teaches nothing is really ever the same.
