ALASDAIR LINDSAY was born in Cheshire in 1975 and attended West Cheshire College, Reading University and Falmouth College of Arts where he graduated in Fine Art.

Working from his base in West Cornwall, Alasdair looks especially though not exclusively at key aspects of the maritime environment. While boats, docks and shipyards feature heavily on his agenda, he also has an eye for some of the more peripheral elements of the coastal setting - beach huts in particular.

Now well established on the contemporary stage and with numerous successful exhibitions under his belt, finalist rankings in several major prize competitions and a dozen paintings on Cunard’s flagship liner, Queen Mary II, Alasdair Lindsay is definitely one to watch.

“My work in this exhibition is about harbours and beach huts. Cornish working harbours are busy communities all year round with signs of local industries going hand in hand with picturesque elements of the harbour. The title ‘Waterfront’ means the part of a town adjoining a harbour or river and town beaches. The beaches around Cornwall and along the south coast are home to communities of beach huts usually near coastal towns. These communities are mostly seasonal, very busy in summer, but deserted and shuttered up during the winter, apart from a few lived-in by dedicated surfers. The huts have a feeling of optimism even during winter, the brightly painted facades waiting patiently to be unlocked for the next hot summer.”
